Through out 2003, a series of events at Hampton Court Palace were organised
to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of Elizabeth I. JMD &Co
commissioned the re-creation of one of the Queens outfits at a cost of
more that £10,000.
The gown was based on a portrait of Elizabeth at Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire
and was re-created in the workshops of historical costumier, Ninya Mikhaila
in Nottingham.
My part in this project was the re-creation of the hand painted silk petticoat,
stomacher and sleeve details. These pieces took three months to complete
using modern silk painting techniques in order that the dress could
be regularly dry cleaned.
